The new Cannon AX  head is ideal for flexible foam molding of automotive seats made with multi-component formulations. This six component mixing head is specially developed to satisfy the needs of the automotive seat producers who require to mold TDI based flexible foams with the maximum flexibility in their formulation.  For this very demanding application, several pure ingredients must be kept separate up to the mixing head and it must be possible to operate each stream on demand, provide high pressure recirculation and avoid the contamination of components.

The innovative aspect of this design is that TDI and eventually a TDI compatible 6th component are axially fed to the mixing chamber through the small piston that cleans the mixing chamber. The other four components (polyols, other catalysts, additives, flame retardants, etc) are fed radially.
A seal on the small piston provides permanent separation between the two feeding areas so that any crossover of low viscosity components is avoided. By feeding these low-viscosity components in an axial way, it is possible to apply on them a limited dosing pressure (as low as 10-20 bar) with immediate advantages in terms of component-line simplification and safety. Fillers - such as fire-retardant mineral charges, or pulverized PU scrap foam -  can be fed through this axial stream avoiding the use of abrasion-resistant mechanical parts.

The AX head is currently available in two sizes, with the pouring duct of 18 and 24 mm. A laminar flow for open-mold pouring can be obtained at output values as high as 400 g/sec for the AX18 and 700 g/sec for the AX24 model.
